Playing classic games through emulators is good. Actually, I would dare say it is great. Having the opportunity to play a lot of the old classic games from consoles of yesterday with the help of some software is really something. Being able to get a chance to not only know, but to also play some of the first games every released, like for example, Mario on the NES, gives you a whole new appreciation for how far the game and the series have come.
Just how can your Nintendo DS or Nintendo 3DS play old classic games through an emalator? After all, it's not like the have an emulator card. But what you can get is something called the r4 DS Card, or R4 3DS Card for the Nintendo 3DS, which will allow you to load and store these emulators and then copy over the games you want to play. While they may not be the most graphically impressive games, compared to todays 3D and rendered games, they certainly made up for the graphics with truly unique game ideas and the most important of all - excellent game play.
You may not realize it, but a lot of the games you play today started out on the old NES consoles back in the day. Published and released by the same company, but back when they were working with bits and bytes, and not gigs of space to bring their games to life. If you just started getting into retro gaming, and going all 8-bit on your friends, here are a couple of games that have been remade for newer systems, that got their start on the NES in one form or another.
1. Bionic Commando
{Bionic Commando was a jump and run scrolling platform game. Platform games is what the NES was known for - but Bionic commando was different in that you could not only move your character left and right, you could scroll the whole screen as you jumped up on new platforms - a first on the NES. It was a challenging game, and many nights were spent trying to beat the bosses at the ends of the levels. The full screen all direction scrolling is the feature that made this game unique - and totally playable. It was remade just a few years ago for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 systems too.And the remake is just as much fun.

1. Bubble Bobble
Bob and his brother Bub, characters we now know thanks to the balloon / ball blasting matching games we've all grown to love and play - and here is the first game they every starred in. The point was that one each of the hundred screens / levels, you could join up with a friend and play together to collect all the jewels and gems, and blow bubbles at the bad guys, which you would have to burst, in order to turn them into a banana jewel, or apple crystal etc... It was a fun action type puzzle game, some would argue a platform game, that could be played over and over again. What a lot of people like about Bubble Bobble was that it was a game that you could pick up and play, quick and easy to get into. And you could save your game, and come back to whatever level you left off at previously. The game was remade on various systems, starting with the Gameboy Advance, and now there are versions even for many smart phones in one form or another.

1. R-Type
The game that set the stage for shoot em up games. It's the classic side scrolling shoot em up game - with all the elements that make shoot em up games so good - not to mention it was converted for virtually every system out there. Every loves it, and for very good reasons. It was a game that almost everyone wanted to play - at home. R-Type was extremely difficult to play in the arcades, and at home, but at least when you were playing it on your NES, your pocket wasn't getting emptied because you didn't have to use quarters to play them. A game that was truly filled with lost of fun and excitement - and a whole slew of good frustrations too.}
Oh Gyruss - how I waited for this game to get the conversion to the home systems - a truly remarkable shooter. There's so much to be said about this game - and much of it has been said already. Much like R-type, this game goes down in my game history books. While it was a shoot em up game, it was different in that it had a 3D-esque kind of feel to it, as your enemies would come at you, but from what felt at the time like the depths of space. Your enemy ships would come from all side of screen and your ship could fly all round the edges of the screen to thwart the bad guys' approach. So what was the point of this game? To go from planet to planet (in our galaxy) and stop the advancing alien forces from attacking. While the game was straightforward to play - trying to explain it in writing is a tad difficult. You should try this game and experience it for yourself to really get a feel for just how good it was - and is.

2. Ghostbusters 2
Ghostbusters for the NES was a great game, lots of fun to play. And in 1990 the sequel was released for the NES console, and thank god it was. Much like in the original Ghostbusters, you had your team, and you had to respond to calls to exterminate ghosts. The premise was the same, but better gameplay meant it was a lot more fun. It was a mix between platform and puzzle game. The graphics over the first game were greatly improved as well, making it an even worthier follow up to a game that was extremely popular. What more can I really say about this game. Practically every knows The Ghostbusters - young and old. And Ghostbusters 2 for the NES gives you a chance to get your game on as the original ghost hunters.}
