Legally Avoid Speeding Fines

Feb 2012 It can be all too easy not to realise when your speedometer is edging towards the limit of the road on which you are driving. Perhaps you have other things on your mind and it has simply escaped your attention. After all, you’re only human. However, receiving a speeding fine can be extremely frustrating at the best of times.

If you are caught the first thing you are likely to think is how to avoid paying. To legally avoid speeding fines, your first option is to not argue with the police officer that has pulled your over. Or, if caught by a camera, put your received notice straight in the bin.

If stopped by a police officer they will have heard every excuse under the sun. If the police officer hasn’t yet written out the ticket you could just ask for a warning. A great amount of those caught speeding can end up with just being issued with a warning. Be bold and ask if it’s possible to be issued with a warning. Explain that normally you are a very safe driver and a warning will prove a valuable reminder as to the need to maintain the correct speed.

In these days of advanced technology if you are looking to legally avoid paying your speeding fine the best method is not initially to contest the technology, a judge will be very sceptical of this and you are better off citing mitigating circumstances. Remember the details of the situation in which you were caught speeding, where you were, your destination, and the events that were happening that day. It will be considered that as you have come to court that there is at least one reason as to why you are contesting the fine.

Admitting that it is possible that you were speeding but not arguing and simply accepting this fact will at least bring closer the possibility of being let off with a warning. Admitting that you might have misjudged your speed is a good strategy.

If it has gone all the way you could try questioning the evidence. You may already have some knowledge of traffic law if not then you could consult a solicitor specialising in this. Some examples include; questioning the calibration of the speedometer the officer used to clock you. It is usually only police traffic vehicles that will have a regularly, correctly and signed off calibrated speedometer. If a mobile speed camera is used and on a busy road they are not necessarily definitely going to know that it was your vehicle doing the speeding.

Details of the law in instances like this are invaluable.
